Description

This is such a fascinating and rare target, thank you to Mike for imaging it so well and providing the data! The numerous galaxies are amazing too!!

SH2 122 is a faint molecular cloud in Pegasus. It is thought to be lit by an embedded star that is not visible and may be associated with the molecular cloud MBM 55 around 500 light years from here. The field hosts a great many background galaxies which are incredible to see when zooming in!

Left of the frame is Markab a magnitude 2.48 Giant blue star that may be a variable blue star, I liked the effect it had on the image and retained the color and reduced the intensity. Markab is the third brightest star in Pegasus it lies 133 light years from here, it is one of the 100 brightest stars in our night skies.

Given the morphology of Markab (it is running out of hydrogen) it will ultimately become a giant orange star and rather than going supernova it will end its life as a white dwarf star after casting off its outer layers which will become a planetary nebula.
Processed with some difficulty using Pixinsight and Photoshop, deconvolved using Tria.

Imaged in LRGB on the Planewave DR 350 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
