Description

The Christmas Tree and Rosette Nebula, Monoceros

The dark sky secret sauce really did deliver with this image

On the same night I took the aurora image that I’ve previously shared I also captured this data with a lens, DSLR and Star Tracker. I need to make it clear that the DSLR is a stock, unmodified, Canon 6D.

Many People will tell you that this image isn’t possible, you can’t get this level of Hydrogen alpha from a stock 6D, well let this be the proof that you can. If this is so hard then I must have surely taken incredible length subs and integrated a multi hour image session

Nope, 60s sub length and this is 27 of them, uncalibrated to boot

I will not, however, belittle the importance of dark skies in this recipe, it’s a major factor, as is 2 years of processing experience, this result did take a solid amount of time to tease out of the stack the main issue being that incredibly rich star field

Any questions on this then please shout, but if you have access to dark skies, can get a star tracker and have a DSLR and lens then these images are within your grasp

I hope you enjoy the view
