Description

IC 5068 is an emission nebula, close to the North America Nebula and the Pelican Nebula. It is much more rarely imaged, but is full of delicate dark molecular filaments that are pretty typical of this sky region.

This is the first image with the William Optics GT71 (after 1y on the shelf). I coupled it with the ASI1600MM in order to obtain a larger field, but it leads to undersampling. I think it's globally acceptable, but a drizzle integration would have been more appropriate (and longer ...). Huge problems for field correction and the backfocus with the WO 6AIII flattener/reducer. It just does not correct at the nominal recommended 9.1mm distance + the 55mm backfocus for the 1600MM. I tested it with CCD Inspector and the best distance was 8.5mm (but still uncorrected completely). I also added a 1mm spacer behind the focuser which seems to flatten the field correctly with the 8,5mm distance (tested with the Bahtinov in all corners). The data is a mix of the 2 backfocus distances, so imperfect.

I found the wide field offered a splendid chromatic variation and diverse types of objects (especially the brigher nebula in the lower corner). Please visit the full resolution for a better immersion.

Data acquired between August 9 - 25 over 6 nights.
