Description

NGC 3199 is located in the constellation of Carina and amptly named as the Banana nebula due to its distinct shape.
Thought to be formed by interstellar winds shaped by a hot young wolf rayet star at its core, this nebula is often overlooked in favour of the neighbouring Gabriela Mistral nebula and indeed the Souther gem, Carina.
A wider field of view provides distinct regions of Ha and strong emissions in Oiii.
Presented here as a bicolour image in HOO, it also reveals a planetary nebula subtly visible towards the top right.
