Description

IC 410 is a faint emission nebula, about 10,000 light years away in the constellation of Auriga. It appears to have two "tadpoles" swimming in a cloud of Oxygen and Hydrogen gas. These interesting objects are probably star forming regions. They are shaped by the flow around them and denser and cooler than the surrounding gasses.

After a long break due to the poor weather, I thought I'd try something completely different. The Optolong L-eXtreme was on sale just before Christmas, so I decided to treat myself. I didn't expect to get anything like this with just 3 hours of exposure time! The tadpoles were clearly visible with a single sub.

My old style C11 is probably better suited for imaging galaxies. I didn't want to crop the image, so as well as dealing with some vignetting, I had to "repair" the stars in the corners. I think my next purchase will be a Starizona SCT reducer to try to minimise this problem. More experiments to follow!

Clear skies!

Tony.
