Description

M65/M66, two of the three members of the Leo Trio here. For some reason I thought I was going to be able to fit the third member in. Guess I should of checked with the framing wizard in SGP! Regardless this makes for a great duo. M66 has such bright arms, details, and clearly active star forming regions. Where as M65 appears devoid of much star birth with a strong lean toward mostly older stars giving that strong golden cast.

This project was a pain to calibrate at first because of flat issues. Some large dust donuts where embossed in the Lum stack. I still do not full understand what is going on, but I was using 3 week old flats and the "fix" was to retake the flats. That did a pretty decent job, though there are some issues in the corners of the uncropped stack. Moving forward I will shoot flats every session, I have no reason not to with a permanent setup and automation. Still I am pretty happy with this. Clocking in close to 13hrs of LRGB data. It feels like I am settling in on integration times for my new sarker location and having an observatory. So 12-16hrs will be for most objects and if it warrants, I will go to the 30-40hr range.
