Description

The famous Horsehead Nebula is a dark emission nebula with thick cosmic dust obscuring a young stellar nursing. The Horsehead is measured to be approximately 3 light years in size.

The Flame nebula is immediately next to Alnitak, which is the farthest east star visible in Orion's belt. You can see Alnitak;s large diffraction spikes. The nebula is caused by Alnitak shinning light specifically in Ultraviolet wavelengths on hydrogen dust clouds that then release the hydrogen alpha specific wavelength. The dark area of the flame nebula has a hidden cluster of young stars be born when imaged in xray and infrared. The Nebula is an average estimate of 1,200 light years away.

The image ins a combination of OSC using my ASI 294 MC pro and my ASI 1600 MM pro for the hydrogen alpha layer.
