Description

Thor’s Helmet! ⚡️

This beautiful emission nebula in Canis Major has the iconic shape of Thor’s Helmet. This was my very first target back when I upgraded from a DSLR to a monochrome camera. The result back then was pretty bad as I had no idea what I was doing. 2 years later, I finally revisited this object and am very satisfied with it despite the low exposure time (10 hours, was originally aiming for 40..)
Half of this data (HA) was taken from the city Bortle 9. The other half (OIII) is from the desert (Bortle 4).
HA filters block so much of the light pollution (more than the OIII filter) so it was no issue imaging the HA from the city.

Thor’s Helmet is what Episode 15 of Galactic Hunter is all about! If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, take a look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GE0N4v-90Xw , you’ll likely have a laugh
