Description

Sh2-101, the Tulip Nebula. The field of view includes the black hole - blue supergiant pair known as Cygnus X-1, the brightest source of X-rays in the sky. The black hole, of course, is not visible, but its companion star is. It is a bright star (HD226868 ) at about the 4 o'clock direction from the nebula, towards the right edge.
