WR16 is a Wolf-Rayet star approximately 7,5000 light years away in the constellation of Carina. The star is surrounded by an almost perfectly circular bubble that was first discovered as recently as 1994. The wider surrounding nebulosity is thought to have come from mass ejections of material from the star in an earlier phase. The strong stellar wind from WR16 are then said to carve out the circumstellar medium to produce the circular bubble surrounding the star. The surface of this bubble has a similar appearance to NGC6888, the Crescent Nebula, which has also been produced by the stellar winds from its central Wolf-Rayet star (WR136).
The image below is produced from 10min exposures using the Antlia 3nm Ha filter and 30 second exposures using the Antlia RGB filters. I had read that no obvious OIII or SII was present in this nebula and a trial of 8 x 10min OIII exposures revealed no nebulosity whatsoever.
I have not found many images of this bubble shaped nebula and thought it would be interesting to image the surface of the nebula in more detail using my 10" Meade SCT. Although the nebula itself does not appear to have a name other than being identified as a bubble surrounding WR16, I thought the 'bobbly' surface and the red Ha colour suited the self professed nickname "The Southern Raspberry Nebula" (I'd like to call it the The Loganberry Nebula but I think I'd be pushing my luck
).
