Description

This object was on my list for years, but i never imaged it until this weekend. I would have done some more subs, but the clouds interrupted my session. The good news is that the guiding went very smooth. I had hoped to capture the outer OIII-shell a bit more, but i think another three or four hours would be necessary to achive that.

In the center of NGC 6888 you can find the Wolf-Rayet-star WR 136 (HIP 99546), it is the bright one left over the "C" of the word "Crescent" in the annotated version. This star lost it's outer shell material about 200.000 years ago, which then formed the Crescent Nebula. The star itself consists only of its core. WR 136s mass is 21 times the mass of our sun and it is expected to blow up in a supernova within a few hundred thousand years.
