Description

One of the gems of the sky, M45, the Pleiades, the Seven Sisters. This very popular object is an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars in the north-west of the constellation Taurus. Illuminated by these "B" type stars is a cloud of interstallar dust that these stars are passing through. This dust was once thought to be remnants of the star forming cloud, but is now understood to be a chance encounter with intersetllar dust and good fortune for us.

The stars of the cluster were formed some 100 million years ago.
