High on my priority list for new-moon nights in September and October, this image of Andromeda is both a benchmark of progress since my
last attempt, and hopefully a suitable birthday gift for my father-in-law, who is passionate about astronomy and has been encouraging and supportive; Andromeda is his favourite object in the night sky.
Imaged over four nights this month and last, I found the newly-modified camera gets swamped pretty quickly with no filters. I do plan to purchase the L-Pro, so I figured I'd move on to other targets after 4 hours of useable subs, and focus on other objects I missed last year with my ST80/400 achromat - I'd particularly like to try Triangulum.
The data was difficult to work with - plenty of light from the target, but not as much detail as I'd hoped. I took over a week to process this, and discovered the skills I'd slowly gained over the last few months processing nebulae don't always work so well with galaxies. I had a hard time protecting the stars while stretching, among other challenges.
