Description

NGC 1579 (known as the Northern Trifid and also Sharpless 2-222) is a diffuse nebula located in the constellation of Perseus. It is a strong HII area as indicated by the very bright Ha center area of the nebula. There is a dark area extending thru the center of the image (N to S) as well as smaller ones to the NE.
