Description

Imaged the northeastern quadrant of the first quarter moon (45.8% illuminated)  in this long focal length panorama captured the evening of July 16, 2021 (July 17th in UTC).  The seeing and transparency were excellent this night and I ended up with some of my best 'hi-res'  lunar imaging results.  This is local crop from the overall panorama highlighting Mare Fecunditatis and Craters Messier & A.  Messier & A are the pair of craters near the center of this image.  Messier is the ovalized crater to the east and A is the crater to its left with the large ejecta rays pointing to the west.  This crater pair is thought to have formed from a grazing impact coming in from the east that first formed Messier than resulting material formed A and the ejecta rays.

Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader 685nm IR pass filter, and ZWO ASI174MM. Imaging train was configured to give ~F/20 (~0.18 arcsec/pixel). Image capture using Firecapture with gain set at 250 and an exposure of 12.5 ms. Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 25% of 1000 frames). Overall panorama generated from 26 panels using Microsoft Image Explorer. Wavelet sharpening and histogram adjustment in Registax6.
