Description

Here is an image of NGC6822 Barnard's Galaxy. This is a barred irregular galaxy located about 1.6 million light years away in Sagittarius. It is a member of the local group.

The galaxy spans about 7,000 light years. The galaxy contains roughly 10 million stars along with a large number of active star formation regions as evidenced by the Hii regions.

information from "redshift-live.com" and "wikipedia".

I have been working on this for some weeks now after doing the capture in June. I decided to try to do the HA and Luminance with a monochrome camera and do RGB with a color camera to see how that would work out. I think this might be a good way to do things as long as one makes certain the cameras are aligned the same way. I learned this the hard way as the orientation of the sensors in these cameras are 90 degrees apart. So this resulted in the image being cropped a lot more than I would have liked. But a good learning experience.

This was somewhat difficult for me to process as I just could not seem to get the color right. I reviewed a lot of images of this and with the understanding of the morphology of the galaxy, I think I am pretty close to how the color should appear. Or at least in the ballpark.

I also wanted to be quite careful with the background with this image. There does appear to be some galactic cirrus or some dust clouds between us and this galaxy and I did not want to kill that by being too aggressive with the background.

Anyway, it was an interesting project and yet another learning experience. I hope you like it and clear skies and good health to everyone...
