Description

The large dark nebula in the center is LDN 137. Embedded in (or foreground to) LDN137 is the smaller and denser LDN 141. The less dense LDN 152 is at the top of the image. There are other dark structures throughout this image. I have annotated some of the more prominent dark structures with references to the Dobashi Catalog of Dark Nebulae and the PGCC. There are background galaxies in this field - the annotated images shows some of these. Two of the more predominant background galaxies (LEDA 917034 and LEDA 919715) are members of the galaxy group [CHM2007] 1223 - at about 350 million light years distant. These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image. Horizontal FOV is approximately 120 arc minutes. Full size image scale is 2.77 arcsec/pix.
