Description

This object is a small open star cluster located 2400 light years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +61 degrees. The 8.8 magnitude cluster of 40 stars spans only 5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 4 light years. That diameter is the smallest I can recall for an open cluster.

This is a pleasant little cluster with a variety of colors and sizes, making it easy to come up with different shapes which fit its interesting pattern. The cluster does not stand out well from the background at first, but with time the eye adjusts and it is fairly easy to pick out the cluster stars.
