Description

Sep 22nd, 2020 - Flame Nebula (NGC2024)

Shooting at higher focal length will give you the opportunity to get sharper details BUT it will also comes with a lot more challenges and frustration, mainly Balancing your mount is very critical in order to be able to track better, Seeing is definitely a big issue at higher focal length and not to mentions you will need longer exposures. Once you troubleshoot and figure out all these issues then you will be able to get some really nice images.

I wanted to capture the Flame Nebula as it contain a lot of details but capturing it will always be very challenging because of a bright star (Alnitak) next to it which usually wash it out, I tried to frame my image far enough from that star to minimize the star flare and reflection, to be honest I wasn't that successful so I used a different technique which is capturing it in H-Alpha filter and that worked fine.

The final image is basically a combination of LRGB were both (L) and (R) are the (Ha) image so you can call it Ha(HaGB), captured 30subs x 180sec of color frames using ASI1600MC-Cool and 55subs x 300sec of H-Alpha using ASI1600MM-Cool, later I split the color image to RGB and replaced the Red channel with H-Alpha channel and then applied the same H-Alpha channel to the color image as a Luminance channel.
