Description

Imaged Mars in OSC RGB on the evening of December 29, 2020 (Dec. 30th in UTC). This was my final imaging session of the 2020 Mars apparition. Seeing transparency were both average on this night. Mars was showing a disc just over 10 arcsecs in diameter (89% illuminated) at magnitude of -0.3. The dark albedo feature near the equator and to the left of the meridian is Mare Cimmerium and to the right is Mare Sirenum. The northern polar hood is still just visible, but I was unable to capture the now diminished south polar cap.

Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader UV-IR Cut filter, and ZWO ASI224MC. Imaging train was configured to give ~F/20 (~0.18 arcsec/pixel). Image capture using Firecapture with gain set at 300 and an exposure of 2.5 ms. Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 5% of ~70,000 frames captured over 240 seconds). Color balancing and Wavelet sharpening in Registax6. De-rotated and combined 4 images in Winjupos.
