Description

After my dear friend Íñigo gave me some hints how to tackle M94 after he gave it a shot at it I had to target it. I did not follow quite all the suggestions, mainly due to the lack of Astro time. I got the 300s LRGB data together, but ran out of clear skies with the data for 30s and 120s, so I ended up just having the LUM data for those. Which ultimately did not hurt that much since I could use the color for the core from the RGB data of the 300s.

I kept the ring intentionally lower compared to other images that I saw here on Astrobin since I am really not a fan of overdoing very low areas of the sky, especially when comparing them to the brighter galaxy part. And it looked really artificial which I did not care so much about either.

This is another example of using 5 minute exposures compared to my previous 2 minute ones, and I am still on the 5 minute train. I tried several others with 2 minutes (not posted yet) and all in all, there is just not enough "material" to work with those. There are a lot of discussions about this on the Net, ultimately recommending exposure times of even less than 2 minutes under Bortle 6+ with CMOS cameras. Maybe those calculations are based on unfiltered data, maybe with the use of the CLS CCD filter to suppress the LP there are other guidelines. Well, everybody will do it their way they see it as best, hence I will stick with the 5 minute exposures.
