Description

I didn't know until after I shot this, but M109 is the most distant of the Messier objects, and one of the most dim as well at mag 9.8. It lies in Ursa Major, and the nearby Phecda at mag 2.4 caused some major headaches. In the original stacks you can see a massive star spike and flare coming from this star off frame. Most noticeable in the blue and green channels. It took lots of work to clear that our. I'll post some before and after in the revisions.

Revision D shows the original master luminance with the star spike and flare.

Revision E shows the repaired master using StarXterminator and Photoshop healing brush.

Would love to have tons of time on this galaxy to see if I could pull some structure out of the core. Alas, I'm in collector mode and itching to move on to the next target.

Here is a cool Hubble image of the core from nasa.gov.
