TThe Southern Hemisphere nebula NGC 6188 forms a complex reflection-emission-dark nebula complex, a small part of which appears in this image. The rendering of this image used HSO in an “ordered color,” mapping where H and S contributed to red, O contributed to green, and O and H (inferred beta emissions) contributed to the blue. The stars and nebula image were photometrically calibrated. I used StarXTerminator v2.2/5 implemented in Affinity Photo to remove the stars and an in-house algorithm for restoring the stars while maintaining their correct color calibration—a challenge in multiple dimensions!
