Description

This object, also known as IC 2062, is a nearly edge-on spiral galaxy located very close to us, about 10 million light years away. It is found in the constellation of Camelopardalis at a declination of +72 degrees. The galaxy spans 12 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 35,000 light years. This is a small galaxy that appears large because it is so near to us.

Because this galaxy is so close, we can observe finer details within the galaxy than we normally would see. I like the bright blue star clusters seen throughout the disk, and particularly what look to me like dwarf galaxies on the far right edge of the galaxy disk.
