Description

Slightly less than a year ago, I posted this image of M27.  It is one of the few earlier targets that I imaged during the commissioning phase of our new 50cm CDK. Later I added substantially more Ha and OIII exposures to capture the outer shell of the planetary nebula, but did not have time to really process the data. Finally I find some time to put all the data together.

This is an HaOIIIRGB composition. The faint outer shell comes from deep Ha and OIII images. The brighter part of the nebula contains both the narrow-band HaOIII data and the broad-band RGB data. Stars come from broad-band RGB data only.

The brighter core is the dumbbell. It no longer looks like a dumbbell once the outer shell is revealed.  Maybe more like a butterfly or a moth.

The original version is a 100% crop.  Ver.B is a 60% reduction of the full field.
