Description

NGC 7822 is a large HII region on the Cepheus - Cassiopeia border, but it is considered within the bounds of Cepheus. It is located approximately 3000 light years from our Sun.

I had a little trouble with object identification. The best description I could find was in "Annals of the Deep Sky." Although there is some disagreement, Kanipe and Webb consider NGC 7822 the entire HII region. What I have framed is Sh2-171. Cerderblad 214 is the brightest part of Sh2-171. Berkeley 59 is the start cluster in the upper left of center and contains young stars a few million years old. It is home to one of the hottest stars with 3000 light years of the Sun, BD+66 1673. This hot star and the cluster are the primary source of ionizing radiation illuminating and sculpting this nebula.

My image is captured in RGB and Ha. I used Ha to enhance the synthetic luminance created from the RGB data.
