Sh2-174 ou PK 120+18.1 est un objet énigmatique. Les désignations d'un catalogue des nébuleuses à émission (Sh2) et d'un catalogue des nébuleuses planétaires (PK) indiquent déjà que la classification de cet objet n'est pas claire.
Sh2-174 est très faible, mais très grand - il a un diamètre d'environ 20'. L'objet a été remarqué pour la première fois par Stewart Sharpless, qui a découvert la nébuleuse rouge constituée d'hydrogène ionisé sur des plaques photographiques. Mais aussi sur des photos à la lumière de l'oxygène double ionisé (OIII) on pouvait reconnaître quelque chose. Cela a conduit à la conclusion ou à l'hypothèse qu'il pourrait également s'agir d'une ancienne nébuleuse planétaire. Mais il n'y avait pas de naine blanche comme étoile centrale.

Sh2-174 or PK 120+18.1 is an enigmatic object. The designations of a catalog of emission nebulae (Sh2) and a catalog of planetary nebulae (PK) already indicate that the classification of this object is unclear.Sh2-174 is very small, but very tall - it's about 20' in diameter. The object was first noticed by Stewart Sharpless, who discovered the Red Nebula consisting of ionized hydrogen on photographic plates. But also on photos in the light of double ionized oxygen (OIII) one could recognize something. This led to the conclusion or hypothesis that it could also be an ancient planetary nebula. But there was no white dwarf as the central star.
