Description

About 7000 light years from us in the direction of the eagle constellation, lodges the famous pillars of creation within the eagle nebula. These columns made famous by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) are towering structures of cosmic dust and gas that are part of a very active star-forming region in the nebula and hide newborn stars within their columns. very dense. They are bathed in searing ultraviolet light from a group of young stars belonging to the M16 cluster just above the pillars in the image.Pillared structures are a common morphological phenomenon in regions of massive star formation that shape surrounding molecules via ionization and stellar winds. These pillars represent a very active and dynamic process where electrons are stripped from atoms and heated by star radiation, then eroded by powerful stellar winds to gently evaporate into space. The blue colors in the image represent oxygen, while the red represents sulfur while the green represents hydrogen, typical of a SHO processing palette called a Hubble palette.
