Description

These northerners just don't treat our southern objects with any respect at all. I mean, laying on his side and back to front!!! The....indignity of it all!!! 😛 So, I returned him to his proper place and now everything is just right 🙂

Good ol' B312, whom I call the King Kong (or, alternatively, Chewbacca) Nebula, a dark cloud of dust and gas which lies some 5000ly away from our home and is some 148.4ly in size. Although, the big boy himself is only about 65-75ly in size, so about half the actual size of the total dust cloud. Lying close by both M16 and M17, he lives in the constellation of Scutum (the shield). Made up of countless microscopic particles of dust which consists of carbon, silicate and other mineral grains formed in the remains of supernovae and planetary nebulae, he tramps about the galaxy looking for any signs of the evil Empire. So, watch out Vader, Chewie's got your number!!! 😛
