Description

This image captures a pair of open star clusters located in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +61 degrees. The cluster on the left is NGC 7788 and the cluster on the right is NGC 7790. Although they appear similar, they lie at different distances from us. NGC 7788 is closer at 5,000 light years away, while NGC 7790 is just over 10,000 light years away. Each span about 5 arc-minutes in our apparent view. This translates into diameters of 7 and 15 light years for NGC 7788 and 7790, respectively.

Both clusters look similar, with many bright blue stars, a sprinkle of orange stars, and similar star densities. The brightest orange star in NGC 7790 is a binary star and appears as a slight oval in the image.
