Description

A 12.89 magnitude planetary nebula with plenty of OIII, Abell 33 is in the constellation Hydra.   This magnitude is similar to Jones-Emberson 1 which I also imaged recently, but I had much better success with it for two main reasons: 1) J-E 1 had almost 24 hrs of integration while Abell 33 is only 9.5 hrs; and 2) most of the imaging time was spent in my southeast skies which has the most intense light pollution (i.e., the shining and ever-growing LEDs heading towards downtown Orlando and Disney World).  PHD2 even had trouble keeping a guide star on some nights.  Both of these issues could have been avoided had I started imaging Abell 33 a couple of months ago, but things don't always work out to accommodate ideal conditions.  So, I have a reason to visit this lovely object next year.
