Description

With large moon in play last few weeks, I was looking for narrowband targets. I havent shot M27 in widefield and it was away from Moon to avoid interference in O3 band. I was originally planning to do a straight Ha-OIII showcasing the halos. However, the star colors in Ha/OIII always bother me. I shot some RGB subs to do star replacement.. Which turned out to be much harder in this dense starfield. It always resulted in bad artifacts.

Instead, I added Ha to R and OIII to B and build a RHa-BOIII-G for the PN and RGB for stars and I like this much better. The halos also stand out nicely.

I like the dense starfield and I am glad I shot RGB instead of pure HaOIII. The colorful stars and dark lanes give a nice "dirty" look to the overall image.

It was a bonus to see another little PN PK06-04.1 on the right side.. the mapping allows it to standout with its purple color.

Processed in PI and PS.

Shot From Nov1 - Nov 8

Ha - 27x15 mins

OIII - 20x15 mins

RGB - 12x5 min / channel

-Notes for New Revision

I finally tried starnet++ and it is amazing in PI in removing stars. Very simple and clean.. I had a faint Ha band on the top and very faint Ha signal that I couldnt show when I did star replacement last time. But with the starnet++ star removed image, the stars were removed but all background signal was left as is. It made re-adding RGB stars easier.

So this is a true HaOIII + RGB stars. I need to practice more to get this method down in my workflow.
