Description

This  Astrobin Debut Object is a Seyfert galaxy located 210 million light years away in the constellation of Andromeda at a declination of +32 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13 galaxy which spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 130,000 light years.  It is about 30 degrees off of face-on in our apparent view and appears undisturbed to me.

This galaxy is the source of a lot of misinformation:

-  Numerous respected sources report that this is one of the largest galaxies in the sky, with a diameter of over 1 million light years.  This is absolutely false.

- Sources also report that the galaxy on the left is a companion, which is false as well.  The 3 galaxies in near proximity to NGC 262 are all in the distant background.
