Description

The Lambda Centauri Nebula (ok, yes normally called the running chicken nebula) was my weekend target as I revisit favourite parts of the summer southern sky. The bright blue white star right in the middle of the image Is Lambda Centauri, a star about 5 times the size of our sun around 470 light years away. Quite close really, the light having left around the 1550’s , the beginning of the Elizabethan era and marking the introduction of chocolate to Europe. The nebula is much further away being a further 600 light year beyond the star.20 x ten minute exposures. Redcat51 250mm scope, ASI2600MCPro camera, L-Ultimate filter, Ioptron Cem26 mount, ASIAir+, PI, PS, LR
