Description

This Abell PN is located 8200 light years away in the constellation of Aquila at a declination of -2 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13 PN which spans 1.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 3 light years.

Like so many PN, the HII is strongest along the rim and the OIII is strongest in the central region.  The HII is especially strong along the left and right edges.  The progenitor star is not visible.

I believe we have a side-on view of a bipolar nebula where the polar ends at top and bottom are broken through.  The two bright red regions are the cross-section of the constraining torus.

This object looks like a dimmer version of Abell 49.  Interestingly, the progenitor star is not visible in that PN either.
