Description

Where I live this time of year has a low hanging overcast, not especially conducive for astrophotography as a hobby.  However, in a little over an hour's drive I can be under 6,000' Bortle 3 clear skies.

When I joined Astrobin last year, I posted an image of M51 that I had taken in April and July of 2021.  It was captured with my 40-year old orange Celestron C8 and an unmodified Nikon D5600.  Since then, I've acquired a mid-90s Celestron C8 and I've added a mono camera.

With the evolution in my equipment, I packed my camping gear and headed to the mountain to take another shot at the Whirlpool galaxy.

Amazing to see the difference between the M51 images that one year's growth in this hobby can make.

Description: As I continue to learn PixInsight, I thought this revision, in which I added the Ha data using Pixel Math instead of the NBRGB Combination Script, is visually more appealing.
