Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a small galaxy group located in the constellation of Pisces at a declination of +8 degrees.   All 4 galaxies are spirals and all look quite different from each other.  This object is the 2nd entry in the Hickson catalog.

The largest galaxy, Hickson 2a in the mouseover, is UGC 312.  It is located 180 million light years away.  This magnitude 13 galaxy spans 1.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years.  Many blue star clouds are seen in the disturbed disk.

Galaxy 2c is the same distance away as 2a and could be interacting with it.  Both galaxies have lopsided disks.

Galaxy 2b is an interesting split blue/yellow color in its core.  Perhaps this galaxy was the result of a recent merger.  At 200 million light years away, it is fairly close in distance to 2a and 2c.

Galaxy 2d, the face-on yellow galaxy at lower left, is the outlier here.  It is much further way at 1 billion light years.
