Description

Only 650 light years distant, and with a true extent of 2.5 light years diameter, the Helix Nebula is a tube of expelled material from the dying central star seen in the image.      In this image,  extra shell material can be seen, but it's not the only "extra" material.   Much deeper photos reveal additional layers beyond what is shown here.
