Description

The Rosette Nebula Complex behind Montsant Mountains Aleix Roig 2021

This wide field image shows the Rosette Nebula Complex behind the Montsant Mountains. Located in the Tarragona region, this area is a perfect place to stargaze and capture the beauty of the universe. Several nebulae can be seen in this sky view: the Rosette Nebula NGC 2237, the Cone Nebula NGC 2264 and IC 2169 Nebula among others.

Montsant Natural Park is a protected area located some 200 kilometers south from Barcelona. This region, together with the Prades Mountains, is protected by law against light pollution. The average darkness in this region varies from 21.00 to 21.50 mag/arcsec2 becoming a perfect place for astronomy lovers.

This image has been done by blending a landscape image with another image that is the result of stacking several frames in order to enhance the details on the sky. All the images have been captured from the same place and time with an astro modified camera and a 135mm lens.

NOTE: This image has been done despite the strong winds that are very usual in this region. That’s why I had to capture hundreds of very low exposure images.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: I would like to thank Georgina Serven. Some incredible histories behind the scenes made this image possible.
