Description

NGC 1931 is a star-forming HII region with an integrated reflection nebula in Auriga. While wikipedia states its distance at 7500 light years (English) and 10000 light years (German), the newest distance measurements from 2015 puts it at 12000 light years +/- 8% (https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/0004-6256/150/5/147). It is sometimes called the fly nebula, but I fail to see the resemblance. I think it has a very interesting structure with the high-contrast dust bands, the bright H-alpha emission and the small, but still bright blue reflection nebula.
