Description

IC1318A is a part of the emission nebula and H-II region surrounding IC1318, aka Butterfly Nebula. For those of you who are interested, here are a few well-known facts.

The whole y-Cygni H-II region is the remnant of a supernova, which occurred about 6,800 to 10,000 years ago and triggered the formation of new stars through its own shock wave. Its distance is 4,900 light-years from earth and 100 light-years across. IC1318A as part of IC 1318 was discovered and cataloged by Edward Barnard in August 1893.

The image was taken in two sessions in my backyard - Bortle 5.
