Description

My first attempt at mosaic process of stitching a four panel data of the Sadr and Crescent nebula region. It was a big learning process, testing, tweaking settings, reading up instructions online and getting help from local AP friends. Few panels were shot during the moon and gave me quite the run around each time I was testing. From the first version this is something I am happy about, but I have ways to go to get a great result.

I also ran into inward focus travel issues with this reducer that I spent days troubleshooting. Adding even a 0.5mm to the backspace resulted in the drawtube inward travel of 5mm (from CN). And I added 1mm to account for the filter and spent several nights wondering what is causing my session to quit after an hour of imaging due to no more focus inward travel left. Right now, set it at the specs of 59.1 and left it at that. It means I would have not perfect stars at the edges, but I will take that over incomplete sessions of imaging.

I kept the processing simple, as mosaic is time and resource consuming. Mure Denoise, Channel combine, Histogram Transformation, Curves, Local Histogram Transformation, a slight pass of Morphological Transformation for stars. Usually I would do starnet on my NB images, nope, did not even attempt that here.

I hope you enjoy zooming and viewing details (and not mind the stars, lol). I was surprised to see the Soap bubble (did not know about it till a local AP'er mentioned it), and nice details of the butterfly nebula and the shell around the Crescent nebula.

Finally, this is a project of 18 panels that I am working on. I have collected 8 so far. I am just posting 4 here, it will be a while before I am done, need about 2.5 weeks of clear nights which is hard to find and then processing it.

6 hours per panel, 2 hours per channel at 15 min subs.
