Description

PK 131-5.1 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Perseus, not far from the border with Cassiopeia.  It lies near enough to the Double Cluster (NGC 869 and 884) that it may appear in some widefield photos thereof.  Spanning only 24 arcseconds, it shines at about 15th magnitude.

This is an HOO bicolor narrowband image at f/7 and 2000 mm focal length taken with the C11 EdgeHD.  I have been imaging planetary nebulae recently, and I needed an early evening target after finishing M76, so this rarely seen DSO got the nod.  105 minutes of integration time from the sharpest subs were used for the luminance channel, so it is somewhat noisier than expected for the total integration time listed.  With tiny DSOs like this one, good seeing and low FWHM are a must, so I sacrificed a lot of subs for better focus.  I also did not apply any noise reduction in order to avoid blurring out what little detail there is.

If I imaged this one again, I would try shooting it at f/10 and binned 1x1 just to put more pixels onto it.
