Description

Sh2-124 is faint an emission nebula in Cygnus. Not much is written about this nebula beyond that is resembles the Cocoon nebula.

I started this image at the end of a long and rainy monsoon season, so I was eager to get imaging. As the moon was fairly bright at 71%, I was looking for an interesting narrowband target. Sh2-124 is a less common subject but is photogenic, so it fit the bill.

Once I had acquired the data, I struggled with the narrow band color composition as I always do. I tried several different blending techniques but remained unsatisfied. My friend Tim suggested I take a look at Bill Blanshan's SHO normalization process (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpIOSSj4L5g) and I immediately got a result that was close to my vision for this subject.

I processed the SHO data starless and combined with RGB stars.
