Description

This image of the Ring Nebula, Messier 57, is the first image I took with my new ZWO ASI294MC-Pro camera, and I was absolutely delighted. This is, in fact, the first astrophotography camera I've ever owned. I debated whether to get a color camera or a mono camera with filters, and finally opted for the color camera to reduce the cost and complexity of imaging, though I expect I'll upgrade to a mono camera eventually. Having observed this object visually many times, this image has solidified in my mind how drastic the difference is between what can be seen visually and with a camera. It's going to be difficult for me to justify ever looking through the eyepiece again! As opposed to visually, the green and red colors are obvious, and I really like being able to see the 4 stars that are superimposed on its disk. Nearby, I can just make out the faint glow of the galaxy IC 1296! I was hoping I'd be able to spot that!

North is to the right in this image.
