Description

NGC 6520 is an open cluster in the constellation Sagittarius, superimposed upon the Large Sagittarius Star Cloud.

It is magnitude 9.0, a diameter of 5 arc minutes and has about 25 stars of magnitude 9 to 12. The dark nebula Barnard 86 lies near its western edge.

Under good conditions at the eyepiece it can be an amazing sea of milk, punctuated by bright stars, and the adjacent inky black B86 creates a fascinating view at the eyepiece. B86 is one of the coldest regions that we know of in our galaxy.

What a difference another lucky clear night makes, with a new moon and no neighbours lights. I should buy a lottery ticket but I probably used all my luck up.

Ruthless sub-frame rejection left me with 58 exposures and vastly better colour with very little processing required. There are simply too many stars to dive into anything too pushy so I just use Normalised Scale Gradient, Drizzle Integration, Linear Fit , and stretching with Globalised Hyperbolic Stretch, which  has be be one of the best tools ever in Pixinsight. Simply amazing once you get the hang of it and makes so may other processes redundant. , Very little to do after that which is a pleasant change. Not like playing paint ball with narrow band at all :-).
