Description

This is a 40h HaLRGB Image of the Helix Nebula, NGC 7293.  From NASA APOD 2007: "A mere seven hundred light years from Earth, in the constellation Aquarius, a sun-like star is dying. Its last few thousand years have produced the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), a well studied and nearby example of a Planetary Nebula, typical of this final phase of stellar evolution. .... The Helix's brighter inner region is about 3 light-years across, but ... the fainter outer halo features give the nebula a span of well over six light-years. The white dot at the Helix's center is this Planetary Nebula's hot, central star.

The 39.6 hours of data for HaLRGB is from DeepSkyWest (DSW) Chile collected 16 July 2021 to 19 August 2021.  North is up in this image. Processed by PixInsight 1.8.8-9, PS CS6 and a light application of Denoise AI.

10/18/21: Added OIII: 14x1800s (7.0h) and S2: 16x1800s (8.0h) to the original 39.6h HaLRGB with OIII as teal and S2 as red to try to preserve the "natural" color.
Total Exposure is now of 54.5h.
