Description

A disturbed galaxy in Andromeda with a thick torus of dust and an extended faint envelop of stars. This image reaches roughly 21st magnitude and so shows numerous faint background galaxies, including a large, rich and distant faint galaxy cluster on the far left.

This is 40 minutes of data across 5 stacked 8-minute live stacks, each of which are composed of 241 2 second exposures back in October. I just got around to processing it. Sure wish I had a darker sky from my backyard. I probably could have reached at least a magnitude deeper, making the extended envelop around the galaxy much more apparent! You can see it best in the reduced scale view, while the detail at the galaxy's core is of course best viewed at full resolution.
