Description

Crescent Nebula (left) + Soap Bubble Nebula (Right from the center) - The Crescent Nebula (also known as NGC 6888) is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus, about 5000 light-years away from Earth - It is formed by the fast stellar wind from a Wolf-Rayet star  colliding with and energizing the slower moving wind ejected by the star when it became a red giant around 250,000 to 400,000 years ago. The result of the collision is a shell and two shock waves, one moving outward and one moving inward. The inward moving shock wave heats the stellar wind to X-ray-emitting temperatures - The Recently discovered Soap Bubble Nebula is likely a planetary nebula, the final shroud of a lower mass, long-lived, sun-like star destined to become a slowly cooling white dwarf. While both are some 5,000 light-years distant, the larger Crescent Nebula is around 25 light-years across. - Photo taken with a CFF-185 APO & ZWO camera ASI-6200 MC Pro - OPT Triad Ultra Quad-Band Narrowband Filter: 191 x 300 sec = 16 hours - Star colors: 100x300 sec. = 8.3 hours, total: ~ 25 hours. Location: “Eye in the Sky” telescope hosting, Raspay, Spain. (c) July 2021, Andre van Zegveld
