Description

I imaged the Milky Way from the amazingly dark skies on the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and the Big Island at the end of July and beginning of August.

This is the sixth in a series of images from the Big Island where we stayed along the Kohala Coast on the northwestern part of the island looking out over the Pacific Ocean. This view of the Milky Way includes the volcanoes Mauna Loa (right side) and Mauna Kea (left side) along the skyline.

Imaged using a Nikon D5300 (full spectrum modified), IDAS HEUIB-II (H-α Enhanced UV IR Blocking) filter, and 14 mm Rokinon lens at F2.8. Exposure was 25 seconds at ISO-3200. Combined 13 subs using Sequator (freeze ground, auto brightness=ON, HDR=ON, LP reduction = ON). Light post-processing using PixInsight (histogram transformation).
